Kuttrapathirikai

If you watch 'Kuttrapathirikai', you would surely wonder that for what reasons this film was not allowed to hit theatres. The movie neither supports LTTE nor talks ill about any particular politico of the country,

but still it was kept in a dark room for more than one-and-half decade.

Well, the story is centered on the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and its reflections on the lives of two young and honest top cops. Director R K Selvamani's attempts to come out with a high-voltage entertainer can be seen all across the movie, but alas, everything goes in vain due to slightly dated narrative styles and camera angles. However, either Selvamani or producer Ravi Yadav cannot be blamed for that, as things were totally out of their control in releasing the moviessss in time.

Ramakrishnan (Ramki) and Arun (Rahman) were Assistant Commissioners of Police and also good friends. After falling in love with Divya (Ramyakrishnan) and Geetha (Roja) respectively, their weddings too take place. However, some misunderstanding arises between Arun and Geetha. Meanwhile, the brutal murder of Rajiv Gandhi (played by Anupam Kher) brings problems, and Arun, who was part of the former Prime Minister's security team, is suspended. The remaining things goes on how investigation officer Karthikeyan (Vijaykumar) and Ramakrishnan zero in on the criminals, including Sivarasan (Mansoor Ali Khan). To give the film a further touch, a (imaginary?) plot to kill the then Chief Minister (probably, Jayalalithaa) in a public function was also narrated.

Both Ramki and Rahman fit well into the roles of cops; with their reel pairs Ramyakrishnan and Roja are also tailor-made to their characters. Backing the movie with their support are Vijayakumar, Anupham Kher and Mansoor Ali Khan, thanks to their hands-on experience in the industry.

Selvamani had tried something new ---- but his endeavor to make a racy action-packed thriller was interrupted, as a result of which the movie's release was not happened in time. Had it been released in time, Kuttrapathirikai would have been a big hit.
