Musical musings - Paali

Debutant director Jesudas, who was a one-time associate of noted director Shaji Kailash has come out with a musical love story through Paali. The story revolves around Richard (new face Sre) and his passions for musical instrument Paali and a girl of the same name (Rimpi).

A student of the London Music College, Richard comes to a remote village in Tamilnadu in search of his favourite instrument Paali. There, he meets the village chief’s daughter, whose name is also Paali. With Paali develops fondness for Richard, he suddenly disappears. Police suspects that Kaarai (Pagala), cousin and intended groom of Paali had killed Richard, unable to stomach the fact that Paali was in love with him. Meanwhile, Richard comes to the village with the help of a saint and reveals what has happened to him. Did the pair enter into wedlock forms the crux.

Debutant Sre play his part adequately though he can improve in expressions and dance movements. Heroine Rimpi, after acting in a range of roles in Assamese films including Monot Birina Jui has done the job entrusted to her well.

Having in mind that Paali has nothing to do without nice songs, music director Bagavath presents soothing numbers to audience. Jesudas, as a debutant director tried his level best to justify the cause. However, Paali would have been much better, if the director had concentrated on cutting down irrelevant scenes and songs.
