Eswaran or E as he is also known as is an orphan who is brought up by an old lady who lives in the slums of Chennai. He is also the local thug, who along with his friend Tony would do anything for money.

A tough guy he does not show his emotions and talks a lot and is fearless. Meanwhile Jyoti a bar dancer from Mumbai finds a house opposite E's. Jyoti learns about E's past and finds herself enamored by him however E does not have any feelings for her Dr.Ramakrishnan is a quack that the slum dwellers have immense faith in. However he uses them as guinea pigs to test his new but potentially lethal medicines which international pharmaceutical companies supply to him for a hefty sum.

One day Jyoti's sister and E's grandmother go to Dr.Ramakrishnan to be treated and Jyoti passes away. In the meantime e saves his life when Nellai Mani a terrorist want to murder the doctor.E makes a deal with Dr.Ramakrishnan to hand over Mani for a lot of money. When Mani is captured, he tells about Ramakrishnan's wheeling and dealings and dies. E now has to set things right which makes the rest of the film. extremely pretty in this film without makeup. Jeeva as E suits well to the character and his performance in this film has been excellent. Music by srikanth Deva and V.T. Vijayan's crisp editing has made this film a must watch. Ekambarams brilliant cinematography has made it pleasing to the eye. Although the director has been chosen a serious subject which the common man may not understand, his sharp screenplay and simple narration makes it simple.
