Crowning glory for Ajith - Kireedam

With other heroes mulling for full-fledged masala movies sans logic to establish their stardom in Kollywood, it takes a hero like Ajith to select a story like Kireedam. Of course, Kireedam too is a commercial flick. But, the hero of the movie never bashes dozens of men at one go to simply get a larger-than-life image, nor he does demigod things to free the society from evils. His mission is as simple he is, that is to become a police officer to fulfill his father’s wish.

Talking about the story, Rajarajan (Rajkiran) is an honest cop whose wish is to make his elder son Sakthivel (Ajith) as a police officer. With a large family consisting a loving wife (Saranya), two daughters with one married to a fit-for-nothing guy (Vivekh) and another son, Rajarajan’s life takes a U turn when he slaps the son of a local MLA. Immediately he gets a punishment transfer to another town, which is the fiefdom of gangster Varadarajan (Ajay). When Ajith is about to join the police force, fate plays a different game and makes him to fall prey to Varadarajan. Has he succeeded in becoming a police officer? What happened to the dreams of his father? Well, you have to watch the movie to know that.

Kireedam is certainly a break for Ajith, who badly needs a super hit. It is Ajit’s show all the way. He brings all the necessary tricks involved to make the role daringly different. In short, the performance of ‘Thalai’ in Kireedam is simply superb. Trisha, playing the role of a college girl who is in love with Ajith, is as ever very chirpy and vivacious. It is a doubt that any actor other than Rajkiran would have done this justice to the father’s role. Vivekh’s comedy is certainly a relief and reduces the seriousness of the movie.

Debutant director Vijay has well understood that he has given with a Herculean task to direct the movie of a top actor. He has presented the movie in such an interesting and innovative way. G V Prakash’s music, Tiru’s camera and Antony’s editing are nothing but strengths of Kireedam. Producer Suresh Balaji has made a right move by investing a right film.

Though Ajith is a lead contestant in the Superstar race, the actor has once again proved through Kireedam that he is totally different from others by acting in a straightforward and honest script without compromising to masala elements.

Kireedam – Fits aptly.
