Honest attempt

Director A M R Ramesh needs to be praised for his pains in making Kuppy an interesting film right from the first scene. The movie, which was critically acclaimed in Kannada is sure to receive the same in Tamil too.

Like Kuttrapathirikai, Kuppy too talks about the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and the police investigation to nab the assassins, Sivarasan and Subha. However, director Ramesh had managed to make a balancing act without siding anyone.

The last 20 days of the human bombs after killing the national leader, their attempts to cross the borders of India, and the cat and rat race between the Special Investigation team and them forms the crux.

‘Anni’fame Malavika, Ravi Kale, Avinash and Rangayana Raghu are tailor made to their characters and had performed well by understanding the story line.

National award winner Tara has triumphantly donned the role of a housewife, who was shocked at the staying of terrorists in her house. As usual, Nasser well plays the role of one of the investigation officers.

Rathnavelu's camera and Sandeep Chowta’s re-recording are major highlights of the movie. Kuppy may be a cyanide story as mentioned in its tagline, but the movie is an elixir in Ramesh’s career.
