Maamadurai is a story of a poor boy falling in love with a rich girl. Though the story is not new to Tamil cinema, attempts were made by director K K Krishnan to present a racy screenplay.
Saravanan (debutant Vasan Karthik) is a coolie at Madurai railway station. One day he meets Nandhini (Mithuna), sister of politician Kumar (Kottai Kumar) and falls in love with her. As u rightly guessed, the remaining story revolves on how the hero succeeded in his love despite hindrances posed by the wicked brother of his girl friend.
Debutant Vasan Karthik is good at dance and fight sequences. Heroine Mithuna appears as a glamdoll in the movie. Vadivelu’s comedy track is a soothing experience for the audience. Delhi Ganesh, Seetha, Karunas and Mayilsami aptly fit to their roles.
Karthik Raja’s music comes as a saving grace for Maamadurai. Maestro Ilayaraj has also given voice for a song. Maamadurai would have been more interesting, if the director had attempted to avoid usual scenes.
