Taking the Pappapatti, Keeripatti issue as the crux, director Selva has tried to do something novel. But the clichés of commercial cinema had pulled his legs and stopped Selva from doing so. Being an end-to-end Arjun film, Maniganda too is no exception from thrilling action blocks. However, the movie fails to woo masses, since all the efforts were made sans logic in many scenes.
Arjun plays the roles of a father and son in Maniganda. Arjun is a do-gooder in the village and wants to eradicate caste system in society. For that, he supports a candidate from the downtrodden community in the elections. Irked by this, the Jamindar of the village (P Vasu) and his team bumps off Arjun and his family. However, his son managed to escape to Mumbai along with a supporter (Chandrasekar) of his father. Remaining story goes on how the son takes revenge on the baddies and fulfils his father's dreams.
Jyothika, playing opposite Arjun speaks through her eyes, as usual. Vadivelu's comedy comes as a kind of relief. Malavika too comes in Maniganda to satisfy the front bench youths. Meanwhile, what happened to Deva these days? None of his films have become musical hit in the recent past.
Maniganda -- Sounds less.
