Not only the stories of Tamil films, but the entire cinema industry here is sentiment oriented. For anything and everything, sentiment plays a vital role in Kollywood. In this scenario, being the first acknowledged remake of an earlier Tamil movie, even a small jerk of Naan Avanillai could be an end to the emerging trend of taking old movies to Gen Next. However, director Selvah has managed to repeat the magic of K Balachandar, who had directed the original version some three decades ago with Gemini Ganesan in the lead role.
With old timers could still recall the stupendous success, rave reviews and bold theme of Naan Avanillai, the younger generation can now celebrate its latest version as a summer bonanza since the movie is chic, trendy and modern. Also, the talent of Selvah to complete the movie without any clash between the five heroines acting in it and to give them equal frames deserves kudos. And the thing that has to be mentioned without fail is the performance of Jeevan, as the actor is very much at ease in doing this kind of playboy roles and comes out with a convincing performance in Naan Avanillai too.
Monika (Namitha), Priya (Malavika), Ammu Kutti (Jyothirmayi) and Radha (Keerthi Chawla) file complaint against Annamalai (Jeevan) for luring and cheating them in different names. After ending up in police net, Annamalai's past and the motive behind all his acts come to light. Meanwhile, Anjali (Sneha), daughter of the Judge (Lakshmi) too develops an affinity towards him. The remaining revolves on whether Annamalai punished by the court for his wrongs or not.
Be it the London millionaire role to lure Malavika, or the Kerala Chief Minister's relative character to attract Jyothirmayi, or playing a Swamiji to woo Keerthi Chawla, Jeevan proves that he is a matured theatre artist. All the five heroines had well understood their character and fit tailor-made. Each of them is given with equal number of scenes and songs to appear.
Also in the cast are Raj Kapoor, Livingston and Mayilsamy. Vijay Anthony's music, especially the remix of Radha Kadhal Varadha is catchy and foot-tapping. U K Senthil Kumar's camera shows all the lead ladies gorgeous. With right commercial elements and inevitable ingredients, the film is sure to make waves.
