Oru Ponnu Oru Paiyan is a film which dwells on the untold love of a pair due to family circumstances, a story which is quiet familiar to Tamil cinema for decades. However, director Naren Deivanayagam passes the litmus test, thanks to the chirypy screenplay and sharp dialogues, the two things that comes as a saving grace for the film.
Playing the role of the son of a eloped pair (Sarath Babu and Banupriya), new face Sandeep returns to his hometown with his parents. With elders in the family accepting them, there occurs a chemistry between Sandeep and his relative Rupa. However, both remains quiet without expressing their love due to family circumstances. Meanwhile, elders decide to make Sandeep to marry Suba Punja. How the lovers united forms the crux.
Being new faces, both Sandeep and Rupa delivers what the director had expected from them. Suba Punja is used as a glamdoll. Sarath Babu, Banupriya shows their experience on screen. Charlie tries to make us laugh in some scenes.
Producers Dr P K Kesavaram and Bharathkrishna needs a shot in their arm for coming out with a love story with new faces in the lead roles. Similarly, director Naren Deivanayagam too deserve kudos for handling a usual story with a different treatment. However, the director could have avoided some scenes which makes the audience slightly uncomfortable.
