Right lessons - Pallikoodam

Films reminding nostalgic memories and taking audience down the memory lane have always been acclaimed widely. Azhagi, Autograph and Thavamai Thavamirundhu are to name a few. The latest addition to the list is Thangar Bachan’s Pallikoodam, a film which dwells on the importance deserved by schools, a place where a boy or girl is shaped as a responsible citizen.

Known for his penchant to make quality films with strong story line, Thangar Bachan has once again come out with a similar movie, which is sure to rule the rural masses atleast, even if it fails to do the same with the urbane. Apart from wielding the megaphone, the director had also donned the greasepaint in Pallikoodam, after Chidambarathil Oru Appasamy.

The film revolves around a school which is on the verge of shut down and a group of former students joining together to save their alma mater. Kumaraswami (Thangar Bachchan), a labourer, Vetrivel (Naren), a District Collector, Muthu (Seeman), a famous director in Kollywood and Kokila (Sneha), who is now a teacher at the same school are the old students, who are getting together for the mission. Did they achieve success in saving the school from falling into ruins forms the crux. Meanwhile, Pallikoodam also portrays a love affair between Vetrivel and Kokila in their school days and the helping of Jhansi (Shreya Reddy), a nurse to their puppy love.

The performances of Naren, Sneha and Shreya Reddy are above than mere acting. All the three have lived up to the expectations, so to say. In his part, Thangar Bachan too does justice to the role.

Bharadwaj’s music is undoubtedly an inevitable part of the film with his Meendum pallikku pogalam takes us back to school. Thangar Bachan’s camera and Bharadwaj's background score makes Pallikoodam an interesting tale. Viswas Sundar has produced a movie worth watching. However, Palllikoodam would be a more enjoyable place had the director avoided some lengthy scenes which make the movie a bit slow.
