Kollywood hardly remakes Kannada movies. The choice of our directors and heroes are always those from Telugu and Malayalam and of course the English ones, sometimes. But, Parattai Engira Azhagu Sundaram is a clear exception to the trend, as the movie was the remake of Kannada blockbuster Jogi.
Trying to live up to the hype created by Thiruvilayadal Arambam is Dhanush. However, his Pudhupettai hangover is seen across the length and breadth of the movie, especially after he emerges as a gangster.
Azhagu Sundaram (Dhanush) is an innocent guy who lives in a village with her mother (Archana). He comes to Chennai in search of a job by leaving his mother in the hamlet. Circumstances make Azhagu Sundaram as Parattai, a underworld don. Meanwhile, Azhagu Sundaram's mother comes to the city in search of her son. Rest of the story revolves on whether the mother and son meet each other in the busy bodied city.
Dhanush’s sincerity to dedicate himself to the character needs a mention. Giving him tough fight by her enthusiasm and charm is Meera Jasmine. However, the clear winner of the movie is former National award winning actress Archana, as she is aware of what to do and what not to.
Director Suresh Krissna, who gave blockbusters with Superstar Rajinikanth had tried the same with Rajini’s son-in-law Dhanush. However, predictable script and often-repeated story stops him from doing so.
