Vasanth is well known for directing films in a different way. Besides being commercial hits, his films always won rave reviews from the media. Keladi Kanmani, Nerukku Ner, Asai, Nee Padhi Naan Padhi and Poovellam Kettu Paar are to name a few.
Toeing the line, Vasanth has come out with Satham Podathey in his own style of film-making. And perhaps taking the cue from his mentor K Balachander, he has dealt with a bold storyline, which is quiet new to Tamil cinema.
The story revolves around Bhanu (Padmapriya), wife of Rathnavelu (Nitin Satya), a railway employee. When Bhanu comes to know that Rathnavelu did not tell her the truth that he is an impotent. life takes a U turn for her. She immediately separates herself from her husband and starts to live an independent life with a child she adopted.
Meanwhile, Ravichandran (Prithviraj), a youngster who sees life in an easy way comes across Bhanu. At the the time when she was impresed by Ravi, Rathnavelu comes in between. What happens next is the climax.
The stupendous performance of Prithviraj and Padmapriya make a silent revolution in Satham Podathey. Nithin Sathya, who made a brief appearance in Chennai 600028 handles the role with negative shades with all ease.
Yuvanshankar's songs and background score adds weight to the movie. Vasanth has put his sincere efforts in making a sincere, serious movie. However, Satham Podathey would have been more pleasant, had the director avoided the lengthy climax.
