Hype never matches with reality in filmdom. Some of the biggest blockbusters have had the least hype and some of the much-awaited films had to face the fate of becoming flop shows. However, films of Superstar Rajinikanth had always been a clear exception to it and the latest addition to the list is his Sivaji.
In one word, Sivaji is awesome. The film is big in conception, great in brillance, excellent in execution and is totally stunning. Rajini's undoubted charisma and magical screen presence will just take your breath away. Backed by spunky expertise of Shankar, mesmerizing music of A R Rahman, vibrant cinematography of K V Anand and sharp dialogues of Sujatha, Sivaji has not only lived up to the expectations but also gone beyond that.
Sivaji (Rajini), a software entrepreneur returns from the US to India with a huge sum of money (nearly Rs 200 crores) and settles with his parents (Manivannan and Vadivukkarasi) and uncle (Vivek). After seeing the plight of the downtrodden in the motherland, Sivaji wants to do something big to them. For that, he starts the construction works of free colleges and hospital, that too after greasing the palms of officials (kudos to Sujatha’s pen and pun in these scenes). Meanwhile, Sivaji falls in love with Tamilselvi (Shreya), an orthodox middle class girl.
With Sivaji going ahead with his mission, Adiseshan (Suman), a wicked bigwig, who is running educational institutions and hospitals as businesses gets irked and stops the works of Sivaji by using his political influence. Also, he makes sure that Sivaji hit the street with just one rupee in his hand.
Using that one rupee as his investment, Sivaji starts his first business by making a phone call to Adiseshan and brings out all his black money. In similar way, he digs out loads and loads of money from the places of big shots and changes it into white tactically. He also makes Adiseshan to stand behind bars.
With all the money, Sivaji again starts his works and establishes Sivaji foundation all over the State. After coming out from jail, Adiseshan moves coin against Sivaji. Circumstances even lead to the death of Sivaji. However, the boss comes alive (you have to watch the movie to know it), as the mottai boss (real awesome part of the film) and takes revenge against Adiseshan and makes India a super power by bringing out all black money.
Among many things that Sivaji has, chief is the charm of Rajini. His audacity and ability simply make the fans to shout at joy whenever he opens his mouth for a dialogue. Vivek is given with utmost importance in the film. In many places, he simply steals the show with his mannerisms resembling Rajini
Making a film that has appeal to all sections of the public is difficult enough. To make it when there are hyped-up expectations all around must have been daunting. However, Shankar, one of the smart directors of Tamil cinema had managed to strike the right chord in Sivaji. His boldness and brilliance are seen throughout the movie. No one had utilised Rajini to this extent, so to say.
Another major asset of Sivaji is the music of A R Rahman, one can say beyond any doubt. Songs and background music, which he had presented is nothing but one among his best. AVM, one of the top production houses of South India has once again established its name and fame through Sivaji.
K V Anand’s camerawork is attractive on the eyes and is technically snazzy. Through his dialogues, Sujatha once again proves that he is the boss among writers. Similarly, Antony’s editing and the stunts of Peter Heynes simply catches your eyes as well as minds. Another thing that needs to be mentioned is the artwork of Thotta Tharani, which gave life to the grand dreams of Shankar.
On the whole, Sivaji will surely the top the long list of Rajni's super hits and will occupy a prominent place in the history of Tamil cinema.
