Guwahati, Aug 18 (UNI) Ending three months of imbroglio, Dr Akhil Kumar Medhi was today appointed vice-chancellor of Gauhati University, the north east's most prestigious education, by Chancellor and Assam Governor Shiv Charan Mathur.

Dr. Medhi has been officiating since mid May after former VC Dr Amarjyoti Chaudhury resigned alleging government indifference towards the development of the institution-a move that has shocked intellectuals and students here.

Dr Medhi used to teach Chemistry in the university.
