Social activist murdered in Tiruvannamalai

A man who had filed many public interest litigations against land grabbing in Tiruvannamalai district was hacked to death on Monday morning by a gang of men while he was returning home on his bike after purchasing milk.

Reports said K Rajmohan Chandra, 53, a resident of Rajiv Gandhi Nagar in Tiruvannamalai, was returning home on his bike on Monday morning after buying milk for his pets.

When he crossed Singamuga Theertha Kulam on the Girivalam path, an armed gang of seven to eight people, which was hiding behind a bush, waylaid him and one of the gang members threw chilli powder on his face. Chandra lost his balance and fell down. The gang members attacked him with sharp weapons, inflicting severe cuts on his head and limbs, and fled the spot. He died in a pool of blood.

The killers seem to have sprinkled chilli powder on his face. As he fell from the bike, the gang had hacked him to death,” the police said.

“It is true that he used to file lots of PILs. However, we have no information on his social activism. He used to claim that he was a lawyer but he has no degree or never was a member of a bar,” a senior police official said.
