June 4, 2012: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa is visiting New Delhi today to finalise the Plan outlay for the State with the Planning Commission. She will meet Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia for finalising the Plan size for 2012-13 (first year of the 12th Five Year Plan).
She will be returning to Chennai the same evening, an official press release here said.
In 2011-12, Jayalalithaa had secured an annual allocation of Rs 23,535 crore, marking an increase of 17.28 per cent over the previous financial year. For the current fiscal too, Jayalalithaa is expected to secure a higher Plan allocation.
Sources say that the Chief Minister will be accompanied by State Finance Minister O Paneerselvam, Chief Secretary Debendranath Sarangi and Finance Secretary Shanmugam.
During her previous visits to Delhi, the Chief Minister had urged the Centre to provide adequate allocation and she had even written several letters to the Union government in this regard. However sufficient funds were not allocated.
The government has announced a slew of measures in electricity, agriculture and other departments and it is expected that she will take all efforts to get necessary funds for them.
