Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today ordered Rs two lakh as solatium to the family of a theft case-accused, who committed self-immolation at Kanathur Police station in Chennai on Monday.
In a statement, she said the Tambaram Judicial Magistrate has been asked to probe the incident and the Special Sub Inspector and Constable concerned had been placed under suspension.
The Chief Minister expressed shock and grief over the death of the accused, Humayun, who committed self-immolation after he was arrested in connection with a theft case.
She said instructions were issued to the police officials to take necessary steps to prevent recurrence of such incidents in future.
