Jayalalithaa's advice to banks

Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Wednesday inaugurated an ATM unit at the Kodanad viewpoint.

Opening the ATM of the Bank of India (BoI) and also its renovated branch at Elada, the chief minister stressed the importance of small savings, pointing out that small drops made an ocean.

Banks should evolve schemes to help people in remote areas improve their standard of living, Jayalalithaa said.

They should extend loans to them at concessional rate of interest with long period of repayment.

"The salaries of government employees and pension and sums distributed under Social Security schemes are done through banks. Further, revenue from tax and other instruments are received through them," she said.
