Even as farmers facing pressure due to the failure of rains, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Monday announced an initiative, which encourages them to use new technology.
She announced cash incentives for farmers who increase the productivity of rice harvest, small grains and sprouts using latest technologies.
An official release said the cash incentives will range from Rs 10,000 to Rs 50,000 and the Chief Minister has alloted Rs 11.40 lakh for the purpose.
The Chief Minister announced a cash award of Rs five lakh and a medal worth Rs 3,500 would be given to the farmer who shows maximum rice harvest in the State by using latest technologies. He/She will be honoured on the Republic Day.
The press release said Rs 50,000 would be given as first prize, Rs 25,000 as second prize and Rs 10,000 as third prize to farmers who emerge toppers in the production of manavari rice, small grains and sprouts.
