A total of 20 candidates are in fray for the June 12 by-election to Pudukottai Assembly seat in Tamil Nadu as the last date for withdrawal of nominations ended Monday.
Meanwhile, various political parties in the State have given a list of as many as 151 star campaigners to undertake the campaign for the by-election to Pudukottai Assembly constituency.
According to the provisions of Section 77 of the Representation of the People Act, the expenditure incurred by leaders of political parties on account of travel by air or any other means of transport for propagating programmes of the political party is not deemed to be expenditure incurred or authorised by the candidate or his/her agent, Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Kumar said in an official release.
The prominent candidates include V Karthik Thondaiman of the ruling AIADMK and N Jahir Hussain of the main opposition DMDK of actor-politician Vijayakanth.
An official release said of the 20 candidates, 15 were Independents.
Since there are 20 candidates in the fray, two ballot units would be used for conducting of the bypoll, which was necessitated following the death of CPI Legislator Muthukumaran in a road mishap recently. |
