Dec 9, 2009: Electricity Minister Arcot N Veerasami on Tuesday said Tamil Nadu would become a power surplus State by the end of the current plan period. He however maintained that the daily two-hour cut would
continue till the power position improved.
Speaking to reporters in Madurai, he said rainfall was insufficient in 20 districts and this turned to be a roadblock for the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board's plan to improve hydel power generation in the State.
“As a result, the daily two-hour power cut in Tamil Nadu, barring Chennai city and its suburbs would continue till the power position improved,” he said. The Minister was in Madurai to attend a conference of Electricity Regulatory Commissions of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala.
