“Tamil Nadu always held a special place for music. Tamilians give equal priority to music and divinity,” Director of Fire and Rescue Services R Nataraj has said.
He was speaking at the inaugural of the 54th Art and Dance Festival of Sri Krishna Gana Sabha. "In Tamil Nadu music and divinity are bound together and cannot ever be separated. November and December have
always been special months for Chennai every year because of the music season,” he said.
The top police officer added: “Such musical treats are rare and seldom seen anywhere else in the world.The people of Chennai have a major role in preserving culture and tradition."
On the occasion, Nataraj conferred the 'Nritya Choodamani' award on Bharathanatyam exponent Narthaki Natraj for her dedication to the art. Classical dance exponent Darshana Jhaveri was conferred with the
'Aacharya Choodamani'.
Danseuses Leela Samson and Sudharani Raghupathy felicitated the awardees at the function. President of Sri Krishna Gana Sabha Nalli Kuppuswamy Chetti, general secretary Y Prabhu and treasurer R Thyagarajan took part.
